I enjoy Chipotle. They have good fresh food. I learned long ago however that good fresh food does not always mean good for the waist line. Most everyone watching their weight knows to avoid the burrito at Chipotle and opt for the burrito bowl instead. The burrito is more like a body pillow—the tortilla alone adding an additional 300 calories.
So indeed the burrito bowl is better. Nonetheless the calories can really add up if you’re not careful. Lesson learned from my client. “I should have looked up the information before I went. But I honestly had no idea. I thought I was eating so healthy.” Yes, she was but as I’ve written before it’s easy to overeat even healthy food. Continue reading
I moved down to Texas quite a number of years ago and when I had my first New Year’s was served black-eyed peas. It turns out it’s a Southern tradition—supposedly black-eyed peas bring luck and prosperity.
Apparently, the tradition started with the Jewish holiday, Rosh Hashanah. But if you are in the South on New Year’s Day or even New Year’s Eve after the strike of midnight you might be served black-eyed peas. Continue reading
Fall is such a great time to get the wonderful pomegranate fruit. They’re actually called the jewels of autumn. Tucked inside the big red spheres are little red seeds called arils. Sweet with a bit of tartness.

Heaven for me would be living on a blueberry farm. My love of blueberries started when I was a kid living in the Midwest. I remember my mom would take me and one or both of my brothers to a blueberry farm where we picked the luscious blue gems till we could pick no more. We only had to pay for what we brought back from the fields not for what ended up in our bellies. One summer goodness knows how many blueberries I ate in one day. Yet we still brought home a stash of 45 pounds. Continue reading
